What: It’s just another environmental blog, launched by three college roommates form Harvard who discovered their eco-alteregos during their junior year abroad in Paris. But it’s NOT just any old blog. This one combines eco with chic and comes up with an online magazine that shows how young people with passion, purpose and attitude can use the web to bring pop culture smarts, humor and entertainment to the green movement. Al Gore may have more influence with his books, movies and fancy KeyNotes; Beanstockd has way more fun.

I liken this year’s crop of gamechangers to the 1964 Academy Award nominees for Best Picture. You have your widespread favorites that appeal to the majority (read: idiots); in the gamechanger race this would obviously be Twitter; and in ‘64 it was Mary Poppins. Then you have the commercial-darling-frontrunner with the strong female lead, backed by the “industry”. The gamechanger being The Huffington Post, the Best Pic nominee being My Fair Lady. But finally, you have the intellectual dark horse that confronts a significant cultural issue with revolutionary wit and deft prose. Rarely does this pedigree lead to contemporary awards, but remember Beanstock’d, history will ultimately judge you the winner, as it has Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

Beanstockd is on my regular rotation of sites that I go to while I am on my 30 minute lunch break at work. In this order I visit a random porno site, then another random porno site, Beanstockd, porno site, porno site, and finally my email.
The comments section in Beanstockd can get quite volatile, and hilarious. I really appreciate postings by Bacon Bits. They are very well written.

The site reaches out to anyone interested in current events and substitutes the dry, fact-based approach that has plagued the green movement for decades with interesting, fresh ideas for becoming more environmentally savvy. Among all of the groups running for this award, Beanstockd stands alone in challenging our society for change, particularly pushing celebrities and influential people to become more environmentally thoughtful in their professional and personal lives, thus quietly encouraging the role models of this generation to use their influence for the green good and to live for a cause greater than themselves. Now that’s innovative.

While you prefer to liken this contest to the 1964 Academy Awards, I prefer to compare this year’s crop of ‘Game Changers to historical automobiles. Whereas Twitter is a gaudy, gasoline devouring stretch Hummer limousine, Beanstockd is a Rolls Royce with teak wood paneling and a custom-installed hydrogen engine. The Huffington Post? That ride ain’t nuttin’ but a hooptie.

Good stuff!
Bacon Bits, isn’t even that eco-friendly, everybody. He tries to act like he loves the planet, but the last time we hung out all he did was brag about how BIG his carbon footprint was.
Oh I’m so proud of Bacon Bits and his cute little friends and their HILARIOUS web site. He used to have such a big appetite. Now, he won’t eat my dumplings.
He says he only eats things made by his personal chef, some lady named Rexy Tran. At least she’s Asian.
I’ve known the team behind Beanstockd for many years and can guarantee that this is a very talented, creative, dedicated and passionate group of young adults. They’ve found a fresh, effective approach to educating America’s young generation about environmental issues. My teenage daughters are religious readers and so am I!
I love beanstockd almost as much as I like stealing my brother’s security blanket. I keep telling him if he’d get an environmentally friendly one I would leave him alone.
